What unfolded during December's Malacca holiday...
The trip started off great when we were greeted by a bunch of wild monkeys during a pee stop. These furry lovelies were playing with each and literally rolling down the slopes for fun! So the cute lah!
Of course, we just had to hit the overrated tourist spots. Oddly, since my first visit to the state, i have always been fascinated by the old St. Paul's church atop the hill. Something about the worn out look, eerieness and tomb stones of this place just stands out to me.
And in my opinion, the best-looking museum in the country...though much cannot be said about the content. I've never been one who gives much care about the country's history...
The historical Portuguese that every Malaysian student may remember for the rest of their lives: Afonso de Albuquerque. This man's surname is so complicating that i once called him Al-boo-kuay-kuay when it really is Al-boo-ker-key. Poor man...
There's one thing that i do HATE about Malacca. The bloody commercial rickshaws. Last i checked, the original ones look nothing like their super flowery, glittery kinds now. If you want to preserve history, you showcase it as it is! Not like some bloody horrible looking rubbish on wheels. What an insult to our ancestors' culture...
On a random note, do you know how much i love clean, big, empty swimming pools?
Finally, the highlight of this trip: a visit to the Portuguese settlement! I've always wanted to come here but often, something just had to to screw the plan up but not this time.
So the government decided to hold this year's national Christmas do there and boy, what a disappointment it was. The performers were mostly facing the big shots and Prime Minister sitting on the opposite side of the stage. So most of what we got were asses. And most of the songs performed were Malay hits...what the fuck? Isn't Christmas party = Christmas carols? If it wasn't for the Christmas costumes, nobody would even know it's a Christmas celebration! We also had to put up with so many speeches about Malaysia being culturally-harmonious. Yeah right...
But just look at the houses there! Everyone is so into the whole Christmas spirit. So unlike the Christmas-less vibe in the city. I guess that's one perk living in a place where most people are Christians and celebrate Christ's birthday.
Returned to the Village for a Eurasian lunch before the journey home. In daylight and minus the crowd, it really is a beautiful place what with the gorgeous seaview. A perfect place to live indeed but *touch wood* if tsunami comes along, that place will be gone in a heartbeat...
Food, glorious food...
The stomachs are filled. Boo hoo, time to head home...
This was supposed to be our expression of girly faces. I asked Andrew (in red) what part of girly was his eye squinting act? He said, "I'm a China girl with sepet eyes". Haha!!!
