Saturday Day Fever

Went to One Utama to meet Kevin after ten gazillion years and spent the day eating, shopping, laughing and listening to the lamest jokes ever existed on earth.

Beruk apakah yang suka makan sayur?
Beruk-koli.

Yeah. Told you it was lame. Blame Kevin.

With two of my favourite-est girls. Couldn't have asked for better people to surround myself with. All the gossips, fun times and bad times. Terima kasih. Lea sayang y'all. Lets make the road trip happen!

After the Delicious lunch, the fun continued at Full House (that restaurant where la-las go to take pictures) with Louanne and Gaithri. It was the craziest dinner i've ever had. Cakes, fries, soft-shell crab, ice-blended drinks - any nutritionist's worst nightmare. So unhealthy and so improper. But who cares?

Along the way, we bumped into our old friends Donald, Minnie, Mickey and Buzz. It is always nice to meet these fellas since we did spend our childhood with them. They never fail to bring out the little innocent child living within all of us. Wanted to drop by Mickey and Minnie's wedding but this guard spotted us gatecrashing the party and chased us away. Damn spoil fun.

Saturday is truly the best day of the week. You get to enjoy yourself without having to worry about what is happening or having to wake up early for work tomorrow because the next day is still a rest day. Saturday, you rock!

My Favourite Supertramp

Two years ago, i celebrated my 21st birthday all alone in Brissy. With my parents in Malaysia and friends back in their own countries, it was me and 24 hours worth of me-time. Waking up to a quiet IH, i caught a bus to the city to get some shopping done. Strolling along Queen Street Mall, i went wherever my mind took me to and found myself in the cinema, buying a ticket to a movie i had randomly picked.

What happened next in the cinema is the reason why December 3rd, 2007 was one of my best birthdays ever. It was the day i was introduced to Christopher McCandless.

As a good student, Chris was offered a place in the Phi Beta Kappa Society. He however, declined because he felt that honours and titles were irrelevant. Upon graduating, he donated all the money he had (all $24,000 of it) to charity and in 1990, changed his name to Alexander Supertramp and embarked on a special journey.

During this time when he was away (and when his family was desperately trying to locate him), he was alternating between working a few odd jobs to pay for his necessities and living in the wild with no food or human contact. In 1992, he hitchhiked to Alaska, the reason that inspired this journey, in order to go back to basics and experience life for what it is. Though he was brimming with enthusiasm, he however, did not go prepared.

Finding shelther in a run-down bus, he lived there for a few months, hunting for food and feeding on wild plants (with the guide of a book). When he felt that he had gained what he wanted from the experience, he finally decided to head home. Unfortunately, his trail was blocked by a river which had grown wider and swifter when he first crossed it. With no food left, he went back to the bus and was found dead a few weeks later. He left behind a journal in which, among other description of his days, he wrote "I have had a happy life and thank the Lord, goodbye and may God bless all". His official cause of death was starvation and some also suspected that he might have accidentally consumed poisonous seeds.

Many think of him as a stupid man for trying to survive Alaska without any preparation. Heck, if Chris really did his homework, he would have found out that there are cabins not too far from the bus he was putting up in.

But i think this man should be applauded for doing what he felt was right for him. Yes, he may have died because of his own carelessness but he had the courage to part with materialism (which has consumed us all) and live in the wild. This young man could have went on to work in an established firm and experience the party world of a fresh grad but he insisted on doing what most of us would never even dare dream of. What he believed would help him learn the true meaning of our existence.

During his journey, he wanted to go away from everything to seek happiness in solidarity but at the end, he realised, and i quote him, that "happiness only real when shared". Alas, it was too late but his act is an inspiration that will live on for eternity.

I've watched the movie, Into the Wild, inspired by him. I've read the book of the same name. And each time, he leaves me with a certain feeling of awe, inspiration, amazement and respect that i cannot shake off.

Supertramp, may you rest in peace!

P.S - Seriously guys, you HAVE TO watch the movie or read the book. It will change you.

The Ungracefulness Of A Swan

All emoness aside, things are back to normal (and i hope it stays normal). So let's celebrate with some laughter courtesy of Miss Swan, a wacky character from old skool comedy sketch series Mad TV.

There's a whole bunch more on YouTube to check out. Now my weekends will finally have a purpose! Thanks for the recommendation Ee Laine! Super funny!

Certainly Not A Good Sunday

I'm tired.

I hate it when i have to pretend that everything's okay. I hate to have to crack a joke, sing a song out loud, do silly things just to let people know i'm fine.

I'm not fine. I'm sick of trying to make it look like i'm alright. But if i don't do it, then things will be worse. So i'm stuck in this limbo that is slowly wearing me down.

This is the reason why i came back from Brissy. This is why i always envy those who get to migrate and live another life elsewhere. Because i simply cannot. I love Brissy but I have to be here to ensure that things are okay. And i just wish that when people ask me why i did not choose to stay in Brissy i could tell them the truth.

Sometimes i just want people to appreciate all this fakeness that i have to put on. It's really emotionally tiring. I just want to cry. But i'm afraid to tell people because i don't want them to judge this situation. I want to crawl into a corner, talk to myself (and God) and just cry my heart out.

Smiling has never been so painful.

Ready, Steady, Think

Once in a while, an awesome riddle comes along and gives your brain that much-needed workout. A workout that is not work/family/friends/life-related but simply, a workout that helps to divert your everyday worries to something that is fun yet innocently stressful. It's a chance to digress from work and be lazy. Yet, you're not actually being lazy because you're working your brains.

Today while at lunch with a friend, one of such riddles popped up.

Unable to solve it during lunch hour, i borrowed a pen from the waiter, jotted it down on a tissue and clipped it next to my computer so i can study it while working. Bad idea. I was so darn concentrated on solving the darn puzzle that i could barely focus on work!

Few hours later, somewhere inside my brains, a light bulb went off (the answer is actually, pretty obvious). The feeling was amazing - it's like i've just discovered a new country or something! All the hours of stressing and thinking finally paid off!

If your brain needs a break too, this is the question i am posing to you today:

A black dog is standing in the middle of a junction, in a town that is painted black. The street lights are out because of a power outage. A car is speeding towards the dog. Its headlights are broken. Yet, it manages to spot the dog in time and made a turn to avoid hitting the dog. How is this possible?

When Greatness Collide

Now i understand why MTV decided to forgo MAA for World Stage because if you were at the event, you would know how wicked it was!

Not only did Karen and I get free mosh pit tickets (last year's humiliation at the MAA audition paid off big time), we were pretty near the stage and we also bumped into the Rejects at Sunway Pyramid! Dang it! Why wasn't i this lucky when the Backstreet Boys were in town? So yeah, we asked for a photo with this fella...

...whom i later found out is Mike, AAR's guitarist. Stupid Malaysian bodyguard didn't allow us to do so or else i would now have a picture to stare at before i go to sleep. Why are most Mikes so insanely hot?

So anyhoo, i realised that all World Stage reviews start with Estranged's performance. Actually, they were not the first to hit the stage. It was some Malay dude who i'm guessing is a product of one of those reality singing competitions. That fella so ter-rer he even threw his bracelet to the crowd. Wonder if anyone kept it?

During Pixie Lott's performance of Mama Do, she did the famous clap from her videoclip but nobody knew what was going on. Heck, i think only Karen and I took note of it and joined in. Whatlah these people. It would have been awesome to see the entire crowd clapping together.

One of the best highlights for me was Hoobastank and their rock/electric version of Ghostbusters. So super awesome it got everyone singing along. And The Reason made me melt! I can't believe i'm only discovering 'em now! Karen met 'em and got their autograph during their trip here years ago. Jealous nyer.

Ladies and gentlemen, i am now officially an All-American Rejects convert. Tyson is one wacky freakshow that i cannot take my eyes off. Go watch his videos at the Reject's site. I'm hooked. He came out with blue glitter all over his arms and body and even climbed up the side railing! He's weird in an awesome way.

Found out that Digi is throwing an All American Rejects live in KL concert on October 10. Nothing is confirmed yet but lets hope it comes through. I want more dose of Tyson craziness, Mike hotness and AAR hits. This time, i'll go prepared with songs to sing-a-long to.

If you want in on the fun too, catch MTV World Stage on MTV (Channel 713) on August 28, Friday at 9pm. Spot Karen and I!

And oh, in case someone decides to sue me, all photos are all from MTV Asia.

My Wallpaper Is On Leave

As if waking up to a Monday morning is not bad enough, my period is here.

Then i get into the office and see this on my computer screen. Great.

While I am fine with living in Malaysia, i don't love it that much. The IT peeps even locked the wallpaper so now i'll have to put up with this until the beginning of September. I hope it only lasts till September.

Ergh. Talk about starting every work day with an ugly view.
